Last treatment dose jab of #mounjaro today \o/

Here they are, these ten unassuming plastic pens that have changed my life.

Now I’m at the 85kg target I’ve spoken to my clinician (Pharmulous) and agreed a maintenance plan.

Coming completely off is a no go, I’ll just put it all back on and more, so I’ll be taking a lower dose longterm from now on.

#weightloss

@Sobtanian Recently I read some stuff about the set point theory and how researchers are searching for mechanisms to manipulate it, so you could stop the medication. On the other hand, given how many positive side effects the GLP1 drugs show besides weight management, I wouldn't be surprised if future agents will find their way into regular supplements.

@buchnema be nice if that does happen, the set point I mean.

I skipped one jab (was going away and it was giving me side effects I didn’t want at the time) and that week my appetite ramped up like crazy, a stark reminder of how, for me personally at least, I can’t just stop.

I think an oral, once a day formulation will be perfect.

Whoever makes that will be king.

@Sobtanian Kinda jealous you have access to this style pen. We only have the single dose autoinjectors here. I kinda hate them. I'm used to insulin pens so I wish we had that style here for Mounjaro.

I'm on 12.5mg myself. 15mg causes too much GERD flare up for me and 12.5mg is helping me achieve my diabetic goals, so here I stay.

@bedast they’re talking about changing them here as you can get a 5th dose out of the pen (if you extract it with an insulin syringe and needle), I never did it that though.

Not sure what they want to change it to though, I think the same design but with less left over.

I only went up to one 15mg pen which in retrospect I didn’t need, it was too potent and caused a lot of cramps.

I’ve ordered a 12.5mg pen now, the aim being to drop to 10mg and see if weight stays stable at that dose.

@Sobtanian Yeah I just don’t like the auto injector mechanism, the inflexibility of injection site choice (if this one hurts, just grit your teeth until it’s done), and the huge amount of plastic waste.

Also some folks find better tolerance splitting their dose. Which you can’t do with the auto injector. It’s all or nothing. Not an issue for me, personally.

@bedast I’m not familiar with them. Are they one dose per pen, premeasured?

I’m ok with full dose also thankfully.

@Sobtanian Right, one pen has a full dose. 4 doses = 4 pens. You take off the end cap where the needle is, twist the lock to unlock, press the needle end against the injection site, then while holding the pen firmly, press the button and hold until it's done. Then toss the whole thing. All self-contained.

I know of some folks who are needle-phobic who prefer this. So it has its uses.

@bedast oh I see. Thanks.
