Anyone for the outdatedness of Slackware?
My Slackware Tilers setup runs Sway, with the nwg-shell. And Mangowc with Noctalia. And Niri with Dank. Hyprland is available, but not installed. And Slackware Current. All from one iso and repository by @jloc0 . Smart thing: package sets are linked by symbolic links. Type "slackpkg install dank" and you'll see all related packages before they're pulled in. Way less 'dependency hell'. And very much up to date 😄 Thanks Jay!

@thesaigoneer @jloc0 My tiling setup consists of dwm when I'm using X11, and dwl when I'm using Wayland. Sure, they're extremely barebones and not to pretty, but they do exactly what I need them to do, and all with a very light memory footprint (even though I have 32GB at my disposal, but my neurodivergent goober brain can't bear seeing more than 2GB usage unless there's a lot of processes running).
@TronNerd82
Guess who's (re)installing dwm on VoidLinux 😜 Love to basically compile your own wm from the ground up.
@jloc0

@thesaigoneer I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say @thesaigoneer is.

:)

@dobbie003
Spot on, mate 😉
@jloc0

@thesaigoneer

at least it is fun to do.

@jloc0

@dobbie003
Our mutual friend Bakkeby to the rescue 🙂 So, all is already up and running, those final tweaks to be done now. And that's where the devil is 👹😂 But Void is very good, time to take it for a longer spin.
@jloc0

@thesaigoneer
Since my stint with Alpine, I have been extremely tempted to run a VOid install.

The only issue is I don't have the motivation to set up a new install right now :)

Bakkeby is just a complete legend, he makes life so much easier :)

@jloc0

@dobbie003 @thesaigoneer alpine as a desktop has never been very good in my experience. Their packaging always seems a bit off to me. Void, however, I always hear good things about, but I just can't get into it. I've tried if only for the name, because it makes me think of Black Sabbath, but it doesn't scratch that itch.

Not as if Linux could scratch the itch of god-tier riffs, but it'd be nice if it could. 😆

@jloc0 if I could use glibc I could move to Alpine full time. I quite liked it.

Not much compares to a Sabbath riff.

@thesaigoneer

@dobbie003 @thesaigoneer "Into the Void" is just killer thru and thru, but I just don't get that out of Void Linux, and that makes me sad. lol

@jloc0
what about listening to Into the Void while installing Void?

@thesaigoneer

@dobbie003 @thesaigoneer impossible. Either I’d be rocking too hard or my guitar would end up in my hands and I wouldn’t be able to type then. 😆 🤘

@jloc0

it certainly would cause some issues, I see that now. :)
