1/3 I just finished reading “Native Seattle: Histories from the Crossing-Over Place” by Coll Thrush. I was thoroughly interested as I read about how indigenous peoples have adapted and survived while maintaining an important active presence in Seattle society ever since the arrival of white settlers almost 2 centuries ago.

2/3 The book talks about how indigenous people have been treated like living ghosts of a bygone era, simultaneously celebrated or present when their names, labor, & cultures are useful while also vilified or ignored when their needs are inconvenient for the manifest destiny that’s driven development of the city of Seattle.
