Well, minion comes from a root word meaning “darling” and henchman comes from root words meaning “horse man.” So it depends on how attractive the followers are. An attractive follower is a minion. An unattractive follower is a henchman or henchwoman. Maybe “hench person” is best. I think they all fall under accomplices.

What if I have an attractive follower who tends to my horses? Or his own horses? (It's unusual that he finds the time and space for having horses, but if it helps him do my bidding better, eh sure. I'm evil, not heartless.)
