Well, minion comes from a root word meaning “darling” and henchman comes from root words meaning “horse man.” So it depends on how attractive the followers are. An attractive follower is a minion. An unattractive follower is a henchman or henchwoman. Maybe “hench person” is best. I think they all fall under accomplices.

What if I have an attractive follower who tends to my horses? Or his own horses? (It's unusual that he finds the time and space for having horses, but if it helps him do my bidding better, eh sure. I'm evil, not heartless.)

I always figured minions believe in the cause, henchmen just do what they're told for money. They may enjoy the rustle, but can be turned by offering them sufficiently more money. Minions will die for you.

As an example: Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg are in it for the money, so they're Trump's henchmen. Miller, Rubio, Noem are in it for the racism, so they're minions. The first group will jump ship as soon as there's more money to be made elsewhere, the second group will contort themselves into pretzels to keep the current gig running.
