So for the first time in my adult life, I have purchased a PC (running Linux, natch) instead of a Mac as my primary development machine. I could abide by many things but bending to trump is where I draw the line.

I encourage all Apple developers to do the same. The Linux ecosystem is ripe for an explosion of creativity and expertise. I’m jumping in feet first.

To be clear I’m not really a Linux noob, I’ve been running it as a server environment for decades, and desktop on (and mostly off) using old hardware I’ve scrounged up.

I’ve been using a 10yr old stinkpad for about a year as a dev environment for personal work, as an experiment. Trying out different distros and desktops. Aside from the occasional glitch, everything has been quite smooth. My frustrations have been mostly around the shitty hardware.

Hence the new laptop. (We really HAVE come a long way in that realm, that’s for sure)

@FeloniousPunk So, what windowing environment did you land on?
@Asymmetricblue Currently running a bone stock gnome install. It honestly leaves a bit to be desired. I had been using KDE but honestly it felt too much like Windows, very fiddly and clunky for my tastes. With the new laptop, I’m going to try a few others before I settle in.
