While I have not played Dverghold, I just finished my playthrough of Underkeep and thought it was a blast!
Like you mentioned in your write-up, it was a lot of fun and the clean retro aesthetics went a long way to making it appealing.
I was also surprised at how well it played with a controller on the steam deck. I'm sure it would be more intuitive with a mouse and keyboard, but was pleasantly surprised with the controller support.

Have you played anything in the Etrian Odyssey series? A party-based dungeon crawl, hard as rock and I think very much an evolution of the old Wizardry style of game. I've put a huge amount of time into them over the years.
