It's been a good couple of days, not just waking up to a Green win in Gorton and Denton this morning but going to see Sue Perkins on her Eternal Shame comedy tour last night. It was brilliant, and I'd recommend you try and catch her if she's performing near you but it's probably sold out so you can't. The audience was an absolutely lovely crowd composed seemingly entirely of lesbians, people who like cake or lesbians who like cake

She did a bit about being diagnosed with ADHD and @SaintlySin cheered, and from that point on she made a point of doing (very kind and good natured) shout-outs to Charlie whenever she mentioned ADHD leading to the sort of impulse control issues that lead to people randomly shouting things out in comedy shows. We were in absolute stitches and I know I was kind of star struck

She also did a bit about her grandparents getting married on Christmas day, and how on every wedding anniversary they would drink brandy cocktails and buy themselves a Wedgwood commemorative plate as a sign that they had saved up, worked hard and could afford nice things. When they passed there were 64 plates, evidence of a very long and happy marriage.

And she thought they were worth a lot of money and wanted to sell them and donate the money to care organisations that helped her grandparents at the end of their lives, but was disappointed to discover the entire collection was worth about £20. Which is a really interesting discussion about how sentimental things that were valuable to our older relatives aren't really monetarily valuable, which I think is something a lot of people my age are having to navigate around now.

So she decided to give one away at each comedy show instead. And in Exeter she decided to give it to @SaintlySin as the person who would probably forget where she got it or leave it on the bus on the way home. So my wife got to come up to the stage and receive a commemorative Wedgwood plate belonging to Sue Perkins' grandparents.

We're going to hang it on our wall. My Nan had commemorative plates and suspended them invisibly by means of an ingenious contraption of wires and springs. I have absolutely no recollection whatsoever of the pictures on the plates themselves but remember being fascinated by how the springs in the hangars worked, which probably says something about my own form of neurodiversity. We plan to toast it with brandy cocktails every Christmas to guarantee a happy marriage, although we might forget by then because of ADHD.
