I think part of Labour’s problem is not understanding/caring that certain policies aren’t merely disliked by some left-wing people, they can become fundamental ethical obstacles to supporting Labour, and that’s not easily shaken off
You want me to support an anti-immigrant, anti-trans govt at the next election? Tough sell, no matter what else you may achieve or what the local tactical situation is

@mattround I think part of labour's problem is that they don't see any other way forward then continuation of capitalism. Alas, if one wants to keep capitalism in place in a world that has been all but bled dry, fascism is the only way forward.
Which is precisely what book the tactics labour is deploying seem to come from.

Attached: 1 image Came across this piece by Christine Thomas, because I was wondering how fascist Italy's meloni government has turned out to be: https://socialismtoday.org/assessing-the-fascist-meloni-government An interesting piece. Some points she makes seem to me to be to be circular reasoning based on hope rather than analisys: 1) she said it can't be fascism because other countries have done similar things of late. My conclusion would be that these countries too, are moving in the same direction. Clearest example being the UK where a labour gouvernement sees no alternative then to play tory. My conclusion would be that to keep capitalism going, governments in power have little choice than to employ fascist tactics. The depth and severity of those measures will only increase as the effects of capitalism grow more severe worldwide. 2) she said the capitalists won't be willing to seed power to the fascist like they did in 28/38. I wish this were true. Allas. See photo of inauguration trump. See DOGE. Capitalist know they make little bits of money if things are stagnant and big bits of money if things move in a big way. They are actively advertising for an end to empathy. 3) she said (if I understood correctly) fascism needs a large middle class. I think that used to be the case only because of the limitations of propaganda distribution methods. One needed the middle class (that had no or less pain to convince poor ppl their pain was unavoidable) The better the methods of convincing poor people their pain is caused by someone other than capitalists, the less middle class ppl you need. Current social media with their algorithms will gladly and easily take the roll of the middle class ppl. Qanon and mega tell us it is so. https://socialismtoday.org/assessing-the-fascist-meloni-government
