If you’re not a US citizen, Anthropic supports your mass surveillance by the US regime. Thought you might want to know in case you find yourself funding your own future demise from a drone strike or something.

(I predict they will capitulate on the domestic demands too. They’re just playing good cop bad cop right now to make it look like they were forced into it.)

@aral

I am not afraid that all that AI collecting information will result in a drone strike on me, but I am afraid that systems such as those from Palentir will prevent me from entering the USA by overzealous customs agents who feel that posts such as this are against the US's interest.

I was asked to speak at a conference there next month, but I doubt if in the current political climate I will accept that invitation. Even though it would be a wise move for my company to go.

@aral

The worst situation is not that you are refused entry, but that they allow you in and then ICE immediately takes you in for deportation. An ordeal that can take months while filling the coffers of the commercial deportation centres.

#USA

@paulschoe And they let you in because ICE gives bonuses based on the number of arrests and expulsions. People earn nothing if you are refused to enter at the border. @aral

@zbrando

Nowadays, I say that people who are refused at the USA border, they are the lucky ones.

As opposed to the ones that are taken in by ICE after they crossed the border. They might disappear into a black hole without a chance to contact someone.

@aral

@paulschoe @zbrando @aral seeing how things go over there, how long before ICE agents coordinate with corrupt border agents to let them know when they’re letting a mark through and share the reward?
It will be a very long while before I set foot on US soil again.
@aral 🫣 even Claude “understands” how shocking “we’ll help you do most of it, just not the parts that would obviously scandalize American voters or get us sued under domestic law” must be
@aral "Department of War" and "lawful intelligence" doing all the heavy lifting is sending so many Orwellian/fascist vibes, I don't even know where to begin.

@aral Exactly. While #snowden felt forced to reveal how the us government was illegally surveiling its own citizens, but as an aside, it also revealed the depths of its spying on all other countries, including its so called 'allies'.
But no one in the US cared about that then, and no one cares about it now. Settled opinion is that it is their right.

And to think they get angry at us when nations start decoupling #us tech.
