are there hot sauce connoisseurs the way there are for coffee and chocolate and such? like, people who can really hone in on the subtle flavor differences, have opinions about pepper cultivars and vinegar ratios, this sort of thing
@typhlosion we have *some* opinions about hot sauce, mostly that if it doesn't have garlic in it it's not worth using (cholula is great! tabasco is the Worst Hot Sauce)

@typhlosion ed currie a professional hot sauce maker + chili pepper breeder! he bred both the carolina reaper and the pepper x -- epicurious has a handful of videos of him trying different hot sauces + peppers where he goes pretty in depth on the flavors of each and what peppers he would vs. wouldn't recommend based on what people are looking for out of their peppers + hot sauce (if you look up "pepper ed" on youtube you'll see a bunch of them)

@typhlosion

There are certainly people who *claim* to have those talents. They tend to be obnoxious loud white boys ๐Ÿ˜

Whether they actually can tell those subtle differences is orthogonal.
