@vitalis I wonder what he cut and how badly? Hopefully wasnโ€™t too bad. The sign is pretty funny though.
@vitalis My soul tells me that the '70s were 30 years ago, and my brain tells me that the '70s were 50 years ago. On average, "40 years" is about right.
@vitalis
Gotta be careful, though. If they develop a taste for blood, they have to be put down.

@vitalis

They don't call them meat saws for nothing.

@vitalis ...I've got some bad news about how many years ago 1977 was.
@vitalis it's almost 50 now :\
@vitalis the fact that it took less than two hours for someone to cut themselves on itโ€ฆ were they just trying to initiate it at that point?

@vitalis You'd think they would have read the manual first:

I guess "hold my beer" is nothing new.

@vitalis I had seen exactly the same plaque about "Think before doing", etc on modern bandsaw and hydraulic press machines.
@vitalis Blod sacrifice is obligatory. And it works.
@vitalis less than 2 hours, smh
@vitalis it's 50 years old now :)

@vitalis

I still have a scar on my thumb from this exact model of band saw. Oddly enough it was set in a corner next to an identical looking white wall.

@[email protected] I love what appears to be a bit of blood in the text. Very vivid bit of signage.

@vitalis #alt4you
On the left a picture a 48-year old, 8-feet tall band saw.
There are a number of small stickers and signs on it.

The picture on the right shows one of these signs. It says:
Received
9:00 am 8/25/77
First Blood
Dave Matzek

@vitalis As a safety professional, this is a great concept. All machines should be labeled so.
@vitalis I worked in industrial automation development for many years and had seen extremely stupid people sometimes. once I was testing a huge machine, running track at 7 m/s, 10 kWt power. heavy steel rollers. and I was working in arplugs, because it was very noisy machinery. I was debugging some things in electronics and the track was running at full speed. and at some moment I turn back and see that some idiot stands near the machine, bending over it and his necktie hangs in cemtimeters from the running steel rollers. 10 kWt, 7 meters per second, man, that would rip his head off with his tie just in less than one second. damn! I was really indignant: who the fuck are you, get out of here! it turned out they brought in a delegation of some idiots from local city authorities and those idiots were roaming around the building and one got into the test room while I was busy with debug and didn't see him. if I didn't notice his presence we could see his brains (if he had any) on the ceiling. that's not a joke that's serious powerful hardware. so I totally understand such plaques.
@vitalis @thatKomputerKat hey@ @mwichary, itโ€™s Gory Gorton! ๐Ÿฉธ
