Before you claim free speech, it's a bit different in Canada 😉

"Freedom of speech in Canada guarantees freedom of thought, belief, opinion, and expression, including press freedom. While fundamental to democracy, this right is not absolute and is subject to "reasonable limits" under Section 1, such as restrictions on hate speech, defamation, and obscenity."

Report them 😎

@dansup American freedom of speech wouldn't apply here either FWIW, you ain't a government lol

While idiots on the right do love to misunderstand things, I don't think there is any nation in which freedom of speech implies a right to publication by others. That'd just be slavery. Although I guess the right doesn't really see that as a problem...

@admin @dansup That's...not what slavery is...

@reflex @dansup Forcing people to perform labor without pay or consent isn't a form of slavery? It is not chattel slavery but there are other definitions that this would meet.

I think it hits all four of the British definitions from Collins:

slavery in British English
(ˈsleɪvərɪ IPA Pronunciation Guide )
noun
1. the state or condition of being a slave; a civil relationship whereby one person has absolute power over another and controls his or her life, liberty, and fortune
2. the subjection of a person to another person, esp in being forced into work without pay
3. the condition of being subject to some influence or habit
4. work done in harsh conditions for low or no pay

And two out of four from the American side:

slavery in American English
(ˈsleɪvəri , ˈsleɪvri )
noun
1. the owning or keeping of enslaved people as a practice or institution; slaveholding
2. the condition of being an enslaved person; bondage; servitude
3. a condition of submission to or domination by some influence, habit, etc.
4. hard work or toil like that done by slaves; drudgery

@admin @dansup People have responsibilities and obligations in every society. That is not slavery in any sense of the term. Get a sense of proportion dude.
@reflex @dansup You really think forcing publishers to publish literally any content from anyone who asks would be reasonable? Sure, I'll just force the local paper to publish all of Wikipedia, why not? They have a responsibility to publish it! Something like an equal time requirement could be a reasonable responsibility, but "publish anything from anyone" is not.

@admin @dansup Still literally not slavery in any sense of the word. I'm not advocating for such policies, I'm saying that your use of the term slavery is incredibly insulting.

You can literally choose not to be in the business in question, or own the platform in question, or participate in the thing in question. A slave in any form has no such options. Stop making that idiotic and insulting comparison.
