Time to announce something new: @aiscarvalho and me have set up a dedicated consultancy to help organisations migrate away from big tech platforms.

https://devicediversa.org

We help inform your decisions: we map your requirements, present alternatives, list the pros and cons involved, and give you support and advice throughout the migration process.

We draw from our 15+ year experience using F/LOSS software and managing our digital infrastructure in order to help other organisations do the same, with technical expertise that we know how to convey in clear and human terms.

So if you know an organisation that wants to get away from Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Dropbox, Salesforce, Zoom, Notion, AirTable, Adobe or Figma, we're here to help!

We're a specialised consultancy focused on helping organisations move away from big tech digital services.

@rlafuente

Excellent initiative! 🤘 🇪🇺

We've been doing it since 1998 for Swedish and European clients.

The more the merrier!

@joho @aiscarvalho Thank you for your kind words -- this is great to see!

One question: you're also providing tech services, correct? This is useful to know since we're just taking care of migration management, and we're also looking for other professionals/orgs that can actually implement so that we can recommend them

@rlafuente

We are a provider, yes; and we still love doing it after all these years, and we prefer open platforms when we have a choice.

Drop me a private mention with your e-mail and I'll send you my details, or we can do the reverse, whatever works for you 😊

@aiscarvalho

@rlafuente @aiscarvalho Sounds we should compare notes! @Tom_c_watson and I are just putting the finishing touches to #TechFreedom https://techfreedom.eu 🙂

@dajb @aiscarvalho @Tom_c_watson Hey this looks so good! Really like your comprehensive approach to the problem, definitely taking notes here :-) please ping us when you launch!
@rlafuente
Good luck, I'm starting something similar in the UK, hope it goes well for you.
@aiscarvalho
@simon @aiscarvalho Hi Simon, thank you and likewise. Let us know when you make things public, it makes sense to network our efforts
@rlafuente @aiscarvalho congrats! wishing you the best! there may be some overlap with a current Institute project on luddism (see https://post.lurk.org/@diagram_studies/115768866079004997). Would be especially interested to collaborate on tools to audit/map reliance on big-tech services.
@rlafuente @aiscarvalho
Just wrote the blurb for two potential evenings/afternoons to be organised in late spring & winter:
"Being an artist working with technology - without big tech.
Questions you have always wanted to ask and perhaps will get an aswer to (or not) "
@wendy i love the careful double padding with "perhaps" and "or not"

Great to read this @rlafuente @aiscarvalho !

There is a growing appetite for this in certain circles in Ireland. After having been a bit public on our transitions at @index we have received a lot of queries. I might forward you one or two on, probably best not to mention potential client names here.

Wishing you all the best with this new project!

@colm @aiscarvalho @index
Thank you Colm <3 and yes, please do forward things to us at hi at manufacturaindependente dot org!

@rlafuente @aiscarvalho This is fantastic news!! I am so glad that you are doing this. I had a veeeery similar idea (quite rough and not well documented) a few months back, but I am too overwhelmed and I have too much on my plate right now.

What I had in mind was to have community videocalls, specific to one topic or tool, with a pay-what-you-can approach, where organizations have to contribute a minimum amount, but where individuals could still participate and be welcome. Would you be interested in doing something like that? Of course this is more relevant for a broader perspective and understanding, not for the actual migration, which would require 1:1 follow-up.

It would be so so good if you joined us at DWeb Camp (@dweb@social@coop) and discuss with the folks of the Democratic Tech Fund, because there is a widespread intention of fostering a coordinated ecosystem of initiatives like this one!

Happy to continue the conversation also privately
