In cheap hotel with convenient meal pouch and immersion heater. The room's garbage can is polypropylene, relatively heat-resistant, let's heat the pouch!
Dinner and sunset
Morning morning!
I watched this movie, Flow, when I should have been sleeping in the flight back from the Caribbean. I am extremely ambivalent about it. On the one hand, it is attractive enough (main character is cat, story is as evocative as can be without spoken dialogs, style is interesting) that I watched it instead of sleeping. But while some of Flow's attitudes felt very real, others were just plain wrong. It's like the person(s) animating had seen cats but had never lived with semiferal cats.
Pic: in TV store, TVs show “Flow” Blu-ray title screen
New cheap hotel. Very good lobby with books and these.
Pic: lobby shelf with books and weird objects
Vidéo: they (objects from last pic) all make noise
I am reliably informed the beads thing is supposed to be played like this. Note: very complicated playing the thing and filming with only two hands
This view reminds me that one of the good times in my life was when the bartender of a cheap hotel (in which I was staying for work, so there wasn't a thread about it) asked me if I wanted a half-pint or a pint for my complimentary spends-many-nights-in-cheap-hotels-customer drink.
Pic: emptied half-pint glass
And now for drunk dinner (we had a 2/3 pint of Belgian beer in the city before the half-pint of Belgian beer at the hotel), let's make instant noodles in this apple compote jar (or apple purée as they say in English (!)).
New noise

Some planning was involved, for instance finishing the little bottle of Tabasco and saving the powdered chili in order to travel lighter tomorrow. But not to the point of figuring out how to eat this when ready. Anyway the knife-spork has never let me down.

Noodles ate, instant decaf coffee drank. May go back out in a minute

Did I already post about using outside as a fridge even if your window has no ledge? You put the tube of condensed milk in a bag and close the window on the bag (also works for beer). rn outside is 12°C and tomorrow at sunrise 7°C, not quite fridge temperature but better than 19°C (condensed milk in a tube can be kept for a little while at not-quite-fridge temperatures)

Did you notice some illuminated square tower in the window? That's tomorrow's hotel. Well the hotel is part of the big building comprising the towers and some domes in the back but not very likely our room will in the towers. View during the day and with different pov.

Pic: at night, illuminated official building (handheld long exposure)
For one pic the exact same description as last toot applies (different building) and the other is a long exposure of a city fountain at night.
Previously-seen square towers and dome. Moon reflected on dome.

.oO( I wonder if they make Belgian beer in Spa, we should check it out )

Ah yes, Bobeline. That's settled then (we will check it out).

Someone made a real-world version of that game for the iPod!

Dome, pink clouds reflected in river
So there is a spa section to this hotel, that spa is currently closed for works but… the door is not locked? Y'all we are almost certainly not supposed to be here, the lack of light alone is a liability (it's like these Petite Ceinture tunnels in the big city where we're not supposed to be, they are dark and easy to trip in, that's how you know you're not supposed to be in them). Anyway let's keep to the darker zones and nothing bad will happen probably.
Pics: handheld long exposures of balconies of sort, water basin, and intricate roof
Exiting the building discreetly, this is where we were. Right under the dome!
Tomorrow, weather permitting, we will investigate the thousand-star hotels in the area. The person at the reception entangled themselves into giving us a 15:00 late check-out, which is very good for a Saturday in this kind of place (I just asked what was possible, I didn't mention I was asking for a complimentary thing but I gave my room number which contained the information if they had looked it up correctly; so they gave me the best they could do assuming I would pay 60€ for it, it was common decency to make it as late as reasonable; and then they realized I wasn't going to pay for it but it was too late to retract the offer).
There is no such thing as bad weather, says the person going on a walk with the bad clothes.
Pic: river but wet: it has been raining and it's still very cloudy
It has been pretty wet but after what would have been 2h of walking if we had started from the train station, we arrive to a nice sleepable area. It's not impossible to find flat and level 2m2 spots but hammock would offer more flexibility. The last urban area being traversed was an industrial zone of some sort so low risk of dog-walkers and very quiet on weekends.
This stream feeds into some puddles that are still enough for mosquito eggs, so yay, water!, but perhaps avoid mosquito season.

There is even a garbage can, to make our steps up to 200g lighter ! #glamping

@void_friend oo, that's a fun one

you gotta try a glass water hammer sometime if you haven't yet :3

@void_friend the one with the metal beads works better if you rest the beads in the palm of one hand and rotate the handle back and forth with the other!
@void_friend I'm a little confused about the cylinder with all the ridges though. the ridges make me think you're supposed to be able to play it by scraping a stick along it like a güiro, but it sounds like the inside is more like a rainstick
@nasamuffin like this? I can make an additional post to correct
