This election in Gorton and Denton is like, kind of a big deal but also it's only one area, right? So that makes it a bit less stressful.

It's making me think that maybe with elections we should just have one election in one constituency per week. And then there's like, a rolling parliament. :D

Hannah Spencer's win for the Green Party didn't just bump membership up to 200,000. The party has been averaging 3,200 new members per day since the by-election. :)

Only 35,000 to go until they're higher than the Labour Party.

@cassolotl Yeah. First I thought it was notable, but it's such a strong previously Labour area the Tories vote 'only' went down by 6%, so it's sadly (mostly sadly, because some of it relates to Reform growth, even worse) not Tory armaggedon.

Still satisfying though.

@cassolotl That would mean a constituency getting an election only every 12 years or so, which isn't great. And I don't think for more than a second that it would encourage longer-term thinking in politicians.

But four by elections a week would fix that. Or, one election a week with STV for four-member constituencies. Yes, I know all too well how MMCs break locality in rural areas, but really it's a case of choosing what you're going to break instead of everything that could be fixed in the current system.
