Before you claim free speech, it's a bit different in Canada 😉

"Freedom of speech in Canada guarantees freedom of thought, belief, opinion, and expression, including press freedom. While fundamental to democracy, this right is not absolute and is subject to "reasonable limits" under Section 1, such as restrictions on hate speech, defamation, and obscenity."

Report them 😎

@dansup
Am really impressed by the policies in Canada. Freedom of speech shouldn't mean use of vulgar languages or using that Freedom to suppress and violate other people's rights. Didn't the Canadians protest against this policy?

@nuwagaba2 @dansup

So called "vulgar" language is protected.

And it shouldn't be any other fucking way!

My government cannot stop me from telling them to get fucked

@ClintonAnderson @nuwagaba2 @dansup

i think "vulgar language" in this context is not

"fuck you you fuckity fuck"

i think it is

"you {bigoted slur} you {bigoted slur}, go {self-harm} or i will {threat of violence}"

@benroyce @nuwagaba2 @dansup

Which is already covered by hate speech restrictions....

@ClintonAnderson @nuwagaba2 @dansup

right but you understand my clarification, so there is no need to go after someone on the basis of not understanding their intention with the use of "vulgar language"

@benroyce @nuwagaba2 @dansup

Language use is not universal....

Doesn't mean I don't think some people who use some words in some context don't deserve a fist in the mouth....

🤙

@ClintonAnderson
That's right. But how can they be held accountable for their actions?
@nuwagaba2 @ClintonAnderson we put big guys in all the hallways that punch Nazis, after properly informing them of course.
@passwordsarehard4
That would be good indeed . But how many would support that?

@nuwagaba2

In my world, there would be Public Internet Spaces from where someone could and would be permanently banned.

But people won't like it, because I would treat it like Public Banking and you would need to be 1)Above Age Of Majority to open an account 2)your identity would need to be verified.

IRL, if you're in prison and you want to join a gang, you often can, but you absolutely cannot visit the public library, a public sidewalk etc etc etc.

It's not a perfect analogy, sure... But it'd be a damn fair sight better than now

@ClintonAnderson
That's the only weakness of democracy. Decisions are taken by the majority and yet people make decisions based on what makes them feel good not what actually benefits them. That ex9pains why we can't stop bad leaders from rising to power because they easily manipulate people's feelings . Can't such a decision be taken without considering public opinion?
