“It’s budget day in Alberta, and the overarching question is not whether the budget will show a deficit, but exactly how many billions of dollars in the red it will be.”

Seems modern Conservatives have forgotten that they’re supposed to be fiscally conservative.

In 2018 Doug Ford blamed the Wynne Liberal government for handing him a large debt. In the seven years since he’s been a much bigger spender with several right leaning organizations reporting it, like the Fraser Institute:

“Doug Ford spending more than ‘reckless’ Wynne”
https://www.fraserinstitute.org/commentary/doug-ford-spending-more-reckless-wynne

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation:

“Ford to blame for Ontario’s surging debt”
https://www.taxpayer.com/newsroom/ford-to-blame-for-ontario%E2%80%99s-surging-debt?id=18485

The Financial Post:

“Doug Ford is partying like Kathleen Wynne”
https://financialpost.com/opinion/doug-ford-partying-like-kathleen-wynne

The Toronto Sun:

“Ford outspending Wynne government he condemned for overspending”
https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/goldstein-ford-outspending-wynne-government-he-condemned-for-overspending-says-report

If you’ve lost Postmedia you know as a Conservative you’re not doing it right (pardon the pun).

Alberta to introduce 2026 budget which is expected to include a multibillion-dollar deficit

Smith says the main culprit is low oil prices but has also pointed to the costs associated with sharp population growth

The Globe and Mail

@Sanderde

Imagine the revenues that would have been flowing into Albertans' public coffers if the UCP's Big Government policies hadn't put moratoriums on entire industries in the private sector, and they weren't discouraging investors by stripping Canadians of their Charter Rights and Freedoms in the doublespoken names of

'freedom and the free market'...

Just imagine.

@goinfawr @Sanderde cough renewables cough

@chad @goinfawr

But oil revenues will last forever (especially if Alberta separates)…

@Sanderde @goinfawr just wait until you see the budget later today... In a sane world it wouldn't pass the confidence vote but of course it will.
