Two recent events - Florian Eitel's extensively researched publication, Le Vallon horloger et ses anarchistes, and Cyril Schäublin's film Unrueh (Unrest) - are a reminder of the profound connection that existed between watchmaking and anarchism. This fascinating story unfolds in the late nineteenth century, during the “first globalisation”, in Saint-Imier – the headquarters of Longines since 1832 – and nearby Sonvilier.
