I updated my itch.io cover for my game, because the click trough rate (ctr) was 0.36%.

That means that 1387 people were shown my game in a list of games and only 5 people clicked on my game.

The players at that point only see the cover image, the name and a one sentence description.

My old cover was just the logo text, then i tried a scene from a room. And both looked very ugly between the other games, so i built more fancy one :-)

@MarxMustermann well that captured my attention in the timeline, so 👍 looks cool

"mice" is unreadably small in some configs as a thumbnail, but by brain filled that in because I know the reference, so it may work, still risky if you want clarity

@ctietze

thx for the feedback!

Yeah the mice is unreadable, but the name of the game is written right below it on itch.

So i hope it doesn't have to be readable and may even direct attention to the text below it.

@MarxMustermann oh btw you forgot to share a link. More links, more clicks :)

Edit: you also don't have a link in your about page, so seeing this image makes me want to click something but no matter the effort, I can't. (Just relaying the inner monologue for you; I went through all this promotion on the web stuff myself some time ago 😬 )

@ctietze

haha, yeah that is a good point as well. Here it is:

I don't want to be spammy, so i am a bit hesitant to add the link in like all posts.

But not having it in my about page is a big oversight. I'll fix that right away. I probably burned some honest interest by not having it.

I'll also go and have a ptoper pinned post with a description and stuff.

@MarxMustermann both sound like an improvement! "Too spammy" is hard to gauge; in a busy timeline, how often will your posts show up? Are you live-microblogging your day 24:7 in 2min intervals? Or do you post an update a day that may not even surface for everyone interested? Don't worry in the latter case is my personal take :)

@ctietze

I do 2-3 posts a day, so it will take while to reach everybody interested, but some people might see me a lot.

I still have time though. Right now i'm testing with a few users and polishing the game.

The itch page itself also converts horribly into downloads, so i'll need to fix that first.

In general my goal is to work devlog style. So to post something that is at least vaguely fun and educational each time and build honest interest in the game that i can call on later.

@ctietze

Also thanks for the advice and feedback! Getting that advice and feedback is one of the reasons i post 🙂
