so do they just like

not make

AM5 boards that can take more than 4 slots of or 256GB of RAM?

I don't intend on USING that much RAM, but I'd like the ability to expand in the future

amd also pc part piocker won't let me see dual-socket boards

@acidiclight pcpp stopped cataloging enthusiast desktop class parts a long time ago
@acidiclight I am p sure there are no AM5 CPUs who's memory controller support more than 4 sticks in total.
@NekkoDroid really? but what if I want to build a beefy beefy dual-CPU tower server
@acidiclight Then you are looking at minimum at the workstation boards (AKA expect to pay at minimum 500 for the motherboard) but I don't think those have dual sockets either, just server boards

@NekkoDroid can it even be called a tower server if I cheap out on the motherboard

what do I even need in a motherboard

how the hell does water cooling work

I'm scared

this is hard

aaaaaaaaaa

@acidiclight I've been wanting to get home server myself for a bit, but I am mostly just reusing my old PC for it (R5 1600, had to replace the MoBo cuz I bricked it by removing the MS secure boot keys).

The main thing I was looking for was PCIe lanes. Cuz those are gone very fast if you are looking to use 1 GPU + any other PCIe peripherals.
