Something I'm noticing more and more with the ever-increasing size of modern cars is how long it takes to park. Plenty of spaces in the hospital car park this morning, but a long queue to get in because it takes people SO LONG to squeeze their wannabe-humvees into the parking spaces. I don't think it's just down to the size, either. I think more and more people are relying on the car tech to get them in rather than just, I dunno, parking like a competent driver.

@ravenbait Bigger, and with much worse visibility. Our Combo MPV is easier to park than some smaller cars I've driven because it's got an unusually high window to plastic ratio by modern car standards (and nice big van-style door mirrors). The reversing camera is admittedly brilliant, but I mostly use it for judging distance rather than seeing where I'm going.

The tech is allowing manufacturers to remove more and more direct vision. I sat in one of those Vauxhall Mocha things that
@andrewxclark had complained about while waiting at the dealers, and there's basically nothing to see by looking over your shoulder.

@kim I want to get an MPV for that reason. I mostly need a very spacious vehicle for adventuring, and I have no need of a Wank Panzer for that.

I wonder if driving lessons/the test will end up having special lessons on how to do without the tech? Or the risks associated with the tech? It worries me that the tech is distancing people further from the idea of being in charge of 2 tonnes of heavy machinery in shared public space, and making it more like a game or video. Less real.
