While women are in most cases primary childcare providers and equal part of the workforce, they’re still very much subjected to a more submissive role in the family.
The ratification of the Istanbul Convention (Council of Europe convention against domestic violence) was met with incredible resistance and a vast social media smear campaign - very Russian propaganda style but you know who’s paying - and it didn’t pass. The opinion of many people - including that of my partner’s parents - was that this is already covered under the law. The word “gender” became a derogatory term.
Meanwhile nothing changed, DV centers are few and full and femicide is on the rise
And now NGOs are under threat to be outlawed, which will literally eliminate those DV centers.
