📢 Two articles calling out I am not using the correct animation. This one being the latest. That and friends texting me links to these articles...

I just went ahead and removed the shake animation altogether. The app update is now live.

Clicking on the Dock icon no longer makes the app shake side-to-side quickly.

@marioguzman how ridiculous. Looks like they’ll need to write about Microsoft Outlook next 😂
@JTostitos @marioguzman this is a “no” animation used correctly though
@nikitonsky @marioguzman I’m not typing something wrong in the password field. It’s preventing me from clicking another window
@marioguzman I didn't take the article as particularly critical, just discussing the problem. I think their scaling animation does work better than a side-to-side, but its your app!
@daveverwer @marioguzman What we really need is the window pop + screen ripple to make a comeback from Dashboard of old. Paired with a tasteful *pop* sound, would be :chef’s-kiss:
@daveverwer RIP my iMessages yesterday about it. About the article and about the animation. At the end of the day, it wasn’t that big of a feature so I just undid it. Not to mention all the discussion here since I first showed it too.
@daveverwer and I have tried the scale animation. It didn’t really work for such a tiny window as my app. I had posted a video about it a while ago. Anyway, I have too much going on to worry about it right now.
@marioguzman then my apologies for adding to the discussion! ❤️
@daveverwer oh don’t be. All good. :)
@marioguzman the shake was great!
@stroughtonsmith @marioguzman it reminded me more of shaking your cursor to find it - I liked it as well, particularly being a small window like that. Helpful if you’re bringing it to the front with a load of other windows on screen
@keir @stroughtonsmith I found it helpful for this reason too but apparently it was enough for @RogueAmoeba and Marcin Wichary to make articles about it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ In any case, thanks guys. :)
@marioguzman @stroughtonsmith @RogueAmoeba ehh, it's your app, do what you want with it 😄

@keir @marioguzman @stroughtonsmith @RogueAmoeba yep, this.

Especially considering that you (Mario) are the de facto champion of the HIG since Apple evidently decided to completely forget about good UI/UX practices.

@marioguzman Ah, I liked the shake. :). I think sometimes developers discount the users capabilities frankly.

And maybe I never type my passwords wrong but I haven’t seen a shake animation for a wrong password in a long time.

@lwdupont I hadn’t either except the login screen every now and then. So many of Apple’s own password windows even just now use labels that your password is wrong LOL.
@marioguzman Have you replaced it with something else? It seems worthwhile to give it some motion (hence the pop), but other ideas could be interesting too!
@RogueAmoeba I had already tried them when I was first implementing. And no, I have just removed it completely.
