As a break from complicated sewing (making a silk satin lining and handstitching it into my quilted jacket, which I feel like I have been doing for the past several centuries) I made a mini felt ornament for a friend using applique and embroidery. One of my most enjoyable makes so far this year!

The sun rays are colonial knots using 4, 2, and 1 strand of embroidery floss, respectively. The pith of the orange slices is satin stitch and split stitch. The ornament is lightly stuffed with cut-up fabric scraps.

@kake I am in deep love with the oranges, they're beautiful!
@dangercake Thanks! I’d considered doing the thick bit of pith as applique instead of embroidery, but I’m glad I didn’t — I think this way works better.
