Ik hoor veel: "ja ik vind digitale soevereiniteit belangrijk maar ik zit ook nog op WhatsApp en nog niet op Signal".
Dit is een fundamentele denkfout: Het gebrek aan digitale soevereiniteit en autonomie wat we hebben is een structureel en systematisch probleem. Net als Klimaatverandering is het niet iets dat we alleen met individueel handelen kunnen oplossen, het moet systematisch worden opgelost.
Signal has a couple of design limitations compared to WA.
You can only install Signal on phones, not tablets.
There is no web interface for Signal, as there is for WA.
These are small changes that make a big difference in usability and accessibility.
In terms of sovereignty, you still have to get Signal on your phone from the Google Playstore -- not from FDroid nor from a side-load.
Sure, diffent softwares will have different feature sets.
To have change we need not only the software, we also need the societal and policy change to shape the environment for better software. For this we need societal pressure, new norms and other changes that everyone can contribute to without even changing the softwares.
Those contributions are more than welcome.
