my poor sanyo 3do is having disc drive trouble... going to open it up and see what i can do with the replacement parts i ordered

these old front-loading optical drives have such issues so many decades later, doesn't even seem to matter what hardware we're talking about

i fixed it! :D it was the ribbon cable after all

the problem is that the oem ribbon cable is too short - when the disc tray opens and closes it physically pulls the cable taut, and after 30+ years of that back and forth the contacts get damaged and it stops working altogether

the replacement cable has a lot more slack to it so it shouldn't happen again. taking the cd-rom drive assembly apart was a real pain but it was worth it!

i like that all the 3do models have a different attract screen, they're fun to watch :3
i get the sense that my sanyo try was very lightly used by the previous owner though besides this... both inside and out it looks basically brand new
