As I head towards the final areas of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, I can't help but notice once again just how much fun the GameCube is.

I felt it with Metroid: Prime, I'm feeling it now. Granted, these are two of the best games the system had to offer, but there's a charm in them that I don't get with other retro or modern consoles.

I think the next game after TTYD is going to be yet another GC title, maybe Zelda Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine, or even Resident Evil 4...

Honestly, I should play Eternal Darkness. I've had the game for more than 20 years in my backlog, and the emulation capabilities of the Steam Deck feel like the best fit for it.

@hk did you not own a GC at the time or are these games you never got round to?

Eternal Darkness has a cutscene in it that still haunts me today, even though I played it on release. I can still hear the music.

Avoid Mario Sunshine it sucks.

Wind Waker is the greatest Zelda game ever made.

FYI: these games are significantly better if you play them with the OG joystick. It’s also one of the greatest things ever made.

@Sobtanian I had the GC, yes, but not many games for it 😅 Here's my collection.

I wish I could play with the OG controller, I too think it is peak controller design!

@hk beautiful. Where is it? España?

I still have mine also, but purple.

Also have the gameboy player, I think they’re quite sought after now.

@Sobtanian In España indeed, next to my SNES.

Every year I tell myself I'll bring them here when I come back from our summer holidays, and every year our luggage is so full that there's no room left to bring any of the two consoles 😂😭

@hk shipping them too much?
@hk Spider-Man 2 was the best Spider-Man game for a very long time. Ultimate Spider-Man also deserves a nod, but you trade away the ability to jump off the Empire State Building for playing as Venom. Web-swinging in Queens just isn't as fun.
@JTO_is_Typing It's been ages since I played the games, so I don't remember them at all... I guess I'll have to add them to my backlog again 😂

@Sobtanian @hk Counter-point: It's not Super Mario Sunshine which sucks, just the blue coins which are not worth your time at all. You can have a lot of fun with the way Mario controls... with a GameCube controller's analog shoulder buttons.

As for Eternal Darkness, I too, never finished it but still dearly miss the stuff Silicon Knights got up to. What a great magic system.

I just wish The Wind Waker had another temple, but it does have the most amusing implementation of Battleship.

@JTO_is_Typing @hk I never got on with sunshine. I finished it, but behind gritted teeth.
@Sobtanian @JTO_is_Typing I guess there's only one way to solve it... I'll have to play it and judge myself 😁
@hk Eternal Darkness is one of the very few horror games I enjoyed. Would be very interested to see your take on it today.

@SimonSays I really want to play it, but somehow whenever I start it, it never feels like the right time to do it 😅

But I think this will be it! 😄
