BREAKING: Sam Altman points out that putting out fires in orphanages also uses a lot of water.

@degroof Which is barely true (especially comparatively) if they're still built without sprinklers that would prevent the entire building from igniting and therefore reduce the actual use by easily a magnitude.

But I'm sure he doesn't want to hear about proper planification and preparation for harm reduction.

Besides which their primary function isn't being on fire.

@lispi314 Move fast and kill "things". @degroof
@degroof And how ignorant of these "poor" orphans that they not even consider using the thermal power potential to power some turbines to provide cheaper energy for e.g. AI or such.
@degroof
What solution was he offering?
@nuwagaba2 @degroof His AI will use millions of gallons of water and enough electricity to power Cleveland to come up with a plan to save a thousand gallons of water in total on all the world’s orphanage fires. The plan will turn out to be impossible, because it’s a hallucination. It will also turn out to be based on a fourth grader’s doodle that the parents posted on the net for a laugh.
@su_liam @nuwagaba2 @degroof Actually, I'd just go with the fourth grader and some fire-safety experts, we would get there.
@su_liam
With such an impossible plan, what's the way forward?
@nuwagaba2 Avoid LLMs by any means necessary, brace yourself for the inevitable bursting of the AI bubble. Survive. When the bubble bursts, tear down those data centers: there’s ram in them thar hills! And SSDs and graphics cards…

@degroof Also... SAM ALTMAN: "People talk about how much energy it takes to train an AI model … But it also takes a lot of energy to train a human. It takes like 20 years of life and all of the food you eat during that time before you get smart."

How come everyone around him still hasn't cottoned on to the fact that he's nothing but a crook?

@pafurijaz @degroof
Also your Average American, especially the more wealthy, are world energy hogs. So he is arguing that his own folk are an even bigger waste of energy than AI's.
@degroof Do not let this man near an orphanage.
@degroof I just realized, that I also use a lot of water for thinking, because I mostly think in the shower. I hope AI doesn't shut me down for that

@degroof @da_667

BREAKING: Mike Oxlong points out that putting out fires in data centers also uses a lot of water.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@degroof What I don’t understand is what happens to the cooling water after it has been round the heat exchangers in a data centre - does it disappear? If not I don’t see the problem.

@PaulNickson @degroof

So do the research. You just admitted you literally don't know anything.

You have seen experts speaking out against the spikes in energy & water usage caused by datacenters.

Now, you can either read their work that is right in front of you, watch a few long form videos, or shut up.

@rusty__shackleford @degroof Or you could be less aggressive about it. I was just enquiring what happens to cooling water once it has done its cooling.
@PaulNickson @degroof
It came off as dismissive and subversive, apologies for taking you out of context.
@degroof In the future, can you please CW photos of people with a missing organ? /j
