Almost halfway through, Macross Frontier fundamentally suffers compared to Macross 7 for me because of the fact I think idol singers are so much less cool than rock bands.

It does have the third best Macross soundtrack out of the six Macross things I've seen so far, which sounds middling until youy realize it's behind the unfairly stacked competition of Macross 7 and Macross Plus. :P

(Macross Plus and Frontier are both Yoko Kanno soundtracks, but Plus just has the incredibly cool unearthly alien evil Hatsune Miku soundtrack to pull it ahead.)

#Macross #MacrossFrontier

@gourd Frontier has good music, but I found the story messy and uninteresting. And it's so packed with (sometimes creepy) fanservice that it detracts from the experience. I enjoyed the movies more as they do a better job of the story while dropping most of the nonsense.

@gabrielesvelto @gourd Macross is kinda like pizza: even if it's bad, it's still kinda good.

What I liked about Frontier is that the singers took a much more active role in the operations -- not just a pop group, but more of an assault pop group unit that conducts espionage and sabotage missions.

And yes, the fanservice and the farming of likes and donations for combat operations was a bit icky -- but if you look at what some Ukranian units are doing, it turned out to be pretty prescient...
