This was posted in a shorter format as a thread on Bluesky and it worked marvelously. One of the most innovative uses of the form that I’ve seen.

How far back in time can you understand English?

An experiment in language change

Reminds me of the fabulous book "Vom Winde ferfeelt" by Zé do Rock.

In this book, Zé deconstructs, reforms and simplifies German orthography chapter by chapter, reaching "ultradoitsh". The reader's motivation to continue is achieved by explaining his hilarious adventures hitchhiking 200 000 km around the globe.

When you open the book in the middle, you won't understand a sentence, but when you start at the beginning, it works out really well and you get immersed in this experiment.

Makes probably only sense for German-readers, but I love this book with my whole heart.
