I still don't understand where people think Senior Engineers come from if they replace Junior Engineers with AI.

How do they think the next iteration of GIGO regurgitated code will be validated and debugged if nobody understands how the black box works?

Not wanting to understand but just wanting the quick answer is a clear trend and implicit outcome of frequent AI use.

To me, that's the real supply chain risk.

solid, consistent apprenticeship and mentoring programs are how you grow senior talent. that means human beings throughout the talent chain.

@jschauma they believe that by the time it matters, AI will be able to do all of the validation and debugging.

No, it doesn’t make any sense.

@jschauma The scary thing is that this isn't just for software, it's everywhere. I've heard similar concerns from InfoSec, Accounting, etc, that new talent pipelines will dry up and no one will be around to replace those who leave.

They are hoping by then they’ll have senior AI. 🤖
@jschauma Managers in companies living from one quarter to the next don't think that far in the future ...
@jschauma As a late-fifties senior engineer, I see unlimited job security for as long as I want to bother with it. In a few years, the number of available senior engineers will drop dramatically as the industry has essentially stopped to train new talent.
@jschauma I'm still trying to figure out what is a senior vibe coding engineer
