Shout out to the semi-colon. They'll show up to a sentence and be like—Let's extend this thought but also set some healthy boundaries.
Just a dude who's all about the vibes; what a legend.

Here's the other thing—semi-colons are making a come back, baby!
Millennials overused the aloof stylistic choice of no punctuation and all lowercase letters (grow up Sam Altman).
This new generation is going to punctuate so hard. They're gonna proper noun the fuck out of everything. We're gonna see carets and tildes & maybe some ampersands, too.
Nope. Scratch that. Millennials over used the ampersands with coffee shops and leather hat stores.
@sidereal @fromjason Is it really though? Feels wrong to me. :D
But idk. My teacher in high school said "just don't use them because the chance you're using it correctly is minimal and there's no harm in not using it".
@SonnyBonds omg this is the same advice my English teacher gave me! I think that might be why I'm so reckless with the semi-colon as an adult.
@SonnyBonds @fromjason Your English teacher did you a disservice; they’re not that hard to use correctly. A semi-colon is for connecting two clauses that could be their own sentences, but carry a related theme or idea.
It’s literally and conceptually just a period and a comma, together.
I think this is the kind of thing teachers say when they themselves don’t know the right answer.
What can I say? I'm a semicolon fan.
Our Lady Joan Mastodon spoke to her knights on matters of style.
A truly gallant toot, she said to them, awaits continuation by other toots. It does so just as the clause that ends in a semicolon invites completion by another clause: without dictating terms. Each of the clauses is free, their association is voluntary and unforced. There is no ruler in the sentence; the semicolon is a native federalist. Let each of your toots be the clause that ends in a semicolon. This is how we shall beat the Great Algo. In style.

@fromjason The Lonely Island has a semicolon take. Language warning, just in case anyone would like a language warning.
