Almost halfway through, Macross Frontier fundamentally suffers compared to Macross 7 for me because of the fact I think idol singers are so much less cool than rock bands.

It does have the third best Macross soundtrack out of the six Macross things I've seen so far, which sounds middling until youy realize it's behind the unfairly stacked competition of Macross 7 and Macross Plus. :P

(Macross Plus and Frontier are both Yoko Kanno soundtracks, but Plus just has the incredibly cool unearthly alien evil Hatsune Miku soundtrack to pull it ahead.)

#Macross #MacrossFrontier

@gourd Frontier has good music, but I found the story messy and uninteresting. And it's so packed with (sometimes creepy) fanservice that it detracts from the experience. I enjoyed the movies more as they do a better job of the story while dropping most of the nonsense.

@gabrielesvelto it is extremely 00's anime (derogatory) with the fanservice and the digipaint

Joked with a friend the difference between this era of mecha and Cross Ange is that Cross Ange is honest. :P

The biggest weirdness for me that isn't expected for the era is why all the CGI is so aliased? MSAA/SSAA exists.

@gabrielesvelto Frontier does have the advantage of not being Zero. Thank god.

but yeah, I've jokingly theorized that every other 00's mech series has the halo effect glowup of not being Gundam SEED

no other decade has people thinking of of Code Geass as the intelligent mech show, and I love Code Geass's absurdity :P

@gourd oh yeah. I rewatched all of Macross a couple of years ago and watched the shows I hadn't watched yet... And when I got to Zero it felt familiar, which was odd because I thought I hadn't watched it. Turns out I *did* watch it but my brain had almost entirely and mercifully erased the memory of it.
