I wonder, are media workers concerned how their work effects society? The book brings up an interesting point that employees of media companies are also reading about all of the harm media can cause to society, but I wonder if their concern would spark change since it is coming from within that field. I think Americans are very finically motivated, because our country is very focused on money as well. Most employee would have a hard time speaking out against their source of income. #so315
Social media Influencers, could be among this group of media workers. Their influence on people to buy things, act a certain way, go to certain places, etc. adds to harm on society. Sometimes you will hear influences say I really use this product or I would not post about it if I didn't really love it. But the motive behind saying these things is money. They have an income to earn and they get that from us clicking and buying. I would be curious to see who influencers see as the problem. #so315
@smm1 I completely agree. All of the consumerism surrounding influencing and media just makes me think about how fake it all is - all these influencers really care about is making money most of the time, so what should we believe from them? #so315
@smm1 I also had a related thought! Of course, yes, influencers make a profit off of promoting products and experiences, but it used to be very harmful because they weren't required to say it was an ad. Now, it feels like social media is ALL "this is a paid advertisement." And we also just have to subconsciously note that anyone who is a popular influencer is profiting off of the amount of views they get, regardless of if they're selling you something or not. More content, more money. #so315
