Something super strange as a pop culture millennial is that in this year 2026 you can't just enjoy the characters in your sci fi or fantasy shows, you are constantly aware of merciless trolling of the actors playing them in real time, and feel haplessly obligated to defend them on the internet.

I used to work really hard to not be that weird fan who followed actors beyond "bravo" + applause. Now we all know which company the troglodyte who sent them a grotesque racist comment works for within 10 minutes and are actively discussing revenge strategies with them on instagram.

Feels bad, man. Social media was a mistake.
@hacks4pancakes the internet might have not been a good idea but here we are
@quinn @hacks4pancakes "Many were increasingly of the opinion that they’d all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans." - Douglas Adams
@emag @hacks4pancakes ahhhh the words of the prophet, they never fail.
@quinn @hacks4pancakes both him and Sir PTerry spoke nothing but truth through the same medium...
@emag @quinn @hacks4pancakes my favorite ontological Adams quote is "In the beginning the Universe was created. This had made many people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.”

@emag @quinn @hacks4pancakes I was thinking a more appropriate quote might be

"Meanwhile, the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation."

@robinadams @emag @hacks4pancakes there is absolutely nothing here that qualifies as well constructed as a babel fish 😂
@quinn @hacks4pancakes It’s all the humans that broke it…
@quinn @hacks4pancakes DON'T give up. You're here fighting the GOOD fight.
@hacks4pancakes ain't that the truth.... need a do-over.
@hacks4pancakes
IMO it's *for-profit*, *unregulated* social media that's the big problem. Community makes a big difference.
@hacks4pancakes there's clearly a before and after
