@zuul now let's assume for a second that this is in fact true. That these cables make a difference.
That must mean by simple logic that the cables themselves change the sound, and that there are at least 3 different ways in which the sound could be changed.
Then by just a tiny bit of more logic, at most one of those cables would reliably tranfer the original signal?
Of course, when asked to use logic, the customers for these things simply claim that they don't know how it works, only that it does.
I always thought there was a great opportunity to make money if one had no sense of morals; sell ethernet cables for better sound or something like that. I think the modern version of this would be a special keyboard that makes your ai music better if you write the prompt with it?
I hate to ruin your charming optimism, but, yeah....

Oh geez

"The SOtM iSO-CAT6 is a high-performance LAN signal filter and isolator that significantly enhances audio clarity by removing noise and interference. Perfect for high-end audio systems, it improves sound detail and resolution. The Special Edition offers customizable sound with various CAT7 cables, allowing you to fine-tune your audio experience since each cable has it’s [sic] own audio characteristics."
Oh no. lol.
Using CAT5 is good but, for recording engineers who use them in place of XLR cables. It's much less expensive, lighter, and takes up less space.
I could see it being used between surround sound stereos and receivers maybe. Only in the craziest multichannel set ups like 16.4.2 or whatever people are doing.
But, that's it.
@GothFvck @mattdm @zuul you might not have realised just how crazy this is. This is not about using Ethernet cabling to connect your speakers. They are literally talking about using a different Ethernet cable to attach your file server to your computer, since supposedly different cables changer the way the music files served off of that server sounds.
Yes. It's that crazy.
lmao wtf. it's amazing how much people overestimate how much bandwidth audio really takes up. There's a reason why CD-R's are 700MB. There's only so much going on with the data and it's all 0's and 1's. Music is actually fairly simple stuff.
Where's the coocoo clock emoji? 🤪
I mean... there's a level where I have to congratulate the people who are selling these things. Good for them. Seriously. lol. The people buying this stuff are obviously doing well financially and are foolish and ignorant enough to deserve being ripped off.
@GothFvck @mattdm @zuul Also, if you were to ask them how the cable supposedly changes the zeroes and ones that are transmitted over the cable, and change them in such a way that it's still a valid compressed stream, but does not alter any bits which are unrelated to audio, their answers gets even more bizarre.
If you want to read some utterly insane ramblings, here are some examples:

Also, the most out there of the companies providing products for this market is this one: https://furutech.com/
Oh my flying spaghetti monster are these products bizarre.
How about a product to remove static from discs
Or a demagnetiser for various things like power cords
To be honest, I'm not sure what the claim even is here, but it appears that it's meant to remove static using negative ions? WTF? Anyway, it's this product
Apparently, if you use this panel instead of the regular plastic frame around your wall outlet, sound will be better?
It's funny, these days, many of these companies flood you with ai generated slop, but these pages appear to be written by actual humans. I guess you still need humans to get the crazy talk to the exact right level.
