Wondering if any First Nations or Métis folks could answer a vocab question for me. I'm reading this article by a Métis genealogist and his Cree-Métis daughter talking about his experiences doing genealogy and archival research, and they use a term I haven't encountered before and that I can't find results for when I do a web search: "maskihkîyiskwêw" (They use it in this sentence: "She was a maskihkîyiskwêw and a midwife.")

Does anybody know what it means? There isn't any additional context and I'm curious now!

(boosts welcome!)

@bluestocking I'm neither, but I found this in a search out of curiosity, if it's helpful: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/maskihkiwiskw%C3%AAw
