A-FUCKING-MEN.

If saying "the best Covid defense is an N95 because the vaxx does fuck all to stop Covid infection and Long Covid," makes me an antivaxxer, then so be it.

Almost every time a vaxxed person has inhaled Covid, they've been infected, and likely brain damaged.

Meanwhile, the very few of us who are Novid rely on respirators to stop us from inhaling the virus in the first place, and "wear a respirator in public at all times" has been my rock solid Covid avoidance strategy.

@[email protected] This brings up such conflicting feelings. Yes! We need to get the word out that **COVID-19 is not just a respiratory disease**, that it can impact almost every vascularized organ! But it's simultaneously INCREDIBLY frustrating to read "The best preventive measure is vaccination" when we KNOW that **the best preventative measure is clean air via respirators**, and the second best preventative measure is cleaner air through air exchange and filtration. #COVID #COVID19 #SARSCoV2 #CovidIsNotOver #COVIDisAirborne #CovidCompetent

@kimcrawley Quite some time ago I read that vaccination made severe Covid infection and Long Covid less likely - although by no means impossible! Did that turn out not to be true? (Genuine question, and I'm one of very few people I know who still masks indoors.)

@jmccyoung

"Covid vaccines may have been less effective than first thought, a major new analysis suggests.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) claims their roll–out prevented 14.4 million deaths worldwide in their first year, with some estimates closer to 20 million.

But new research by Japanese scientists indicates that, while the mRNA jabs made by Pfizer and Moderna undoubtedly prevented severe illness, immune protection dipped much faster than expected.

Analysing antibody data from more than 2,500 adults, the team found almost half experienced a 'rapid' decline in immunity within nine months of a booster."

Meanwhile you say "I wear a mask indoors!" 🫠

"FAQ 4: How important is mask-wearing outdoors?
Mask-wearing remains an important protective measure, especially in crowded outdoor settings or when close proximity to others is unavoidable. Masks help to block the release of respiratory droplets and aerosols, reducing the spread of the virus. They are most effective when worn consistently and correctly by both infected and uninfected individuals.

FAQ 5: Can Covid-19 spread in a crowded outdoor event?
Yes, Covid-19 can spread in crowded outdoor events, even with open-air ventilation. Close proximity, increased respiratory activity (e.g., talking, shouting, singing), and potentially poor adherence to mask-wearing can create localized pockets of higher risk."

And I sure hope by "mask," you mean an N95 respirator.

My respirator on my face covering my nose and mouth protects me from outdoor infection too, whereas your Covid vaxx will eternally be 1.5+ years behind currently circulating strains.

The smart money says I stay Novid and you don't.

@kimcrawley Thank you for the reminder about the quick loss of effectiveness! And yes, I use an N95 and I'm almost never in crowds outdoors. My one infection was via my less cautious wife, who was helping an entirely uncautious friend with early Alzheimer's.

@jmccyoung @kimcrawley I would like to point out the quick loss of effectiveness is specific to mRNA vaccines only.

(am also aware I ironically have more in common with antivaxxers when I tout #Novavax - and increasingly consider the bigger picture in which mining and supply chains and plastics are to be viewed with extreme side-eye)

@kudra @kimcrawley Interesting, thank you! I had not known that the swift loss of effectiveness was specifically for mRNA vaccines.
@jmccyoung @kimcrawley yup. I don't like to look like a conspiracy theorist, but in this case it seems pretty warranted, very few people are interested in actually looking at all the data.
