Have been trying to find a path forward with ICM and auroras. So far the ideas in my head are not translating to the sensor. The most obvious circular motion is still the most pleasing.

I need more opportunity to experiment.

Is there a way you can do a 90-degree smear? Pivot the camera 90 degrees around its bottom-left corner.

Or what about something silhouetted in the foreground, such as a tree? I'm guessing a small amount of movement, so people can still tell what it is.

I have a few variations online with your suggestions. Was playing with the outline of different trees, at different distances. Placing the spin in the corner is one of my favourite moves.

But also you get a narrow window you experiment (was also taking regular photos!) and what you see on the back of the camera might look more effective than when you get the hires image on the computer.

My favourite ICM from the Himalayas extracts just enough detail to give credibility to the smeary elements. It's a balance. I've struggled to generate any detail in my Aurora ICM, as it's a difficult subject. It's not well suited. But I have a vision for what I want. I will keep digging if we get some more clear skies.

I know you've experimented with it before. It's something that I want to get back to myself. My best ICMs are accidental.

I was thinking that auroras would be especially difficult. It's actually not something I would have thought of.
