It's nice to see that when #DEFCON says "Don't support rapists" they really mean it. https://techcrunch.com/2026/02/18/hacking-conference-def-con-bans-three-people-linked-to-epstein/
Hacking conference Def Con bans three people linked to Epstein | TechCrunch

The Def Con hacking conference banned hackers Pablos Holman and Vincenzo Iozzo, as well as former MIT Media Lab director Joichi Ito, from attending the annual conference after their reported connections with Jeffrey Epstein.

TechCrunch

@evacide I hate to say this, but I am... Surprised, and moderately impressed.

(I hate it because the bar should be higher.)

@evacide

Links to #Epstein are proving to be toxic.

Release ALL of the #EpsteinFiles
#Unredacted Now.

"Joan Vollero, a spokesperson for Iozzo, told TechCrunch in a statement that Def Con’s actions are 'entirely performative, given that Mr. Iozzo has barely attended the conference in the past twenty years.'

'It was a rush to judgment not based on any investigation or wrongdoing by Mr. Iozzo,' the spokesperson said."

File under "Streisand Effect".

@evacide

@dave @evacide nothing says "I didn't do anything wrong" like having to hire a spokesperson to run pr for you.
@evacide they should ban everyone else mentioned in those files too.
@meph @evacide That has to be done carefully. The files contains a lot of everything, including victims names and totally unrelated people (for instance, there are multiple open source software license files, as well as user manuals. the people cited in those are extremely unlikely to be related to epstein).
@SamantazFox @evacide well clearly, but to clarify, I was referring to the abusers and facilitators, such as Elon Musk, who was at Defcon at least in 2018
@meph @evacide *nods* Yeah, those should definitely be on a forbidden list!
@SamantazFox @meph @evacide TBH I don't think Space Hitler would want to go to Def Con. He'd be trolled all the way out of the venue.
@FuturisticRobert Haha, Space Hitler, love it XD
@SamantazFox I wish I could claim that as my own creation. It's too on point.
@meph @evacide The various late night TV hosts are in the Epstein files, but only because their names were mentioned in emails to or from Epstein, as in "did you see Colbert last night?". So no, you can't just ban anyone whose name appears. But anyone shown doing business with or schmoozing Epstein after his conviction should be shunned.
@evacide all symposium timeslots formerly held by banned applicants will now be given to rms for a lecture and q&a topic tbd
@mancube I see you have never been to DEFCON.
@evacide I'm glad to be wrong 🙏🙏 not trying to diminish a win, tech can just be kinda exhausting with what does and doesn't pass muster for bad behavior
@evacide I have always been impressed by how expert Defcon is at keeping attendees safe and healthy. They obviously can't stop everything, but they constantly evaluate and change to get better. I'm glad they did this.
@evacide It's also incredibly depressing that conferences are enforcing more meaningful penalties against Epstein creeps than the DOJ.

@klausfiend @evacide

The DOJ has been captured by creepy weirdos.

Consequences and social ostracization by non-governmental entities have to be the norm until…whatever form the federal government takes next.

@evacide Why would three those subhuman garbage piles bother going to DEFCON when they've already partaken in the shadowy horrors of PEDOCON?
@evacide Cool.
Now do Jacob Appelbaum.
@KraftTea Jake was banned in 2017.
@evacide (Can't heart enough.)
@evacide
I feel like I want @hacks4pancakes to know about this.
Though they probably already do.

@evacide '''Iozzo previously told TechCrunch that his interactions with Epstein were “limited to business opportunities that never materialized, as well as discussion of the markets and emerging technologies,” and that he “never observed nor participated in any illegal activity or behavior.”'''

So just communicating with a convicted rapist is enough to get banned?

@dynom @evacide downplaying what Jeffrey Epstein was to "convicted rapist" is like calling Facebook a "website where people talk". Don't be a jerkoff.

@siv @evacide it's not about Epstein, it's about the people who interacted with him who are penalised.

The general rules are not about if you're a rapist or a "worse" rapist.

I'm all for banning assholes, but criminalising by association is a slippery slope?

@dynom @evacide Have fun dying on that hill. Be sure to bring those concerns to your coworkers, friends, family, and Mossad handler. I'm sure they will be well received by at least one of those categories.

'''This is a social judgment, not a formal accusation based on direct involvement.'''

'''Just because you associate with someone who has made a mistake or done something wrong doesn’t mean you share their views or actions. '''

What Does Guilty by Association Mean?

Unpack the informal concept of “guilty by association,” distinguishing it from legal guilt and exploring its societal effects.
