ive noticed a subtle decline in people using emojis in the last year or two. like, its very subtle, probably at or under the statistical noise floor, but i think they're on the way out culturally. in one-to-one communication they come across as "facebook aunt" these days, and in one-to-many media, the vibe they communicate is often just "AI smell"
@jk I’ve noticed this as well! both broader use but also me personally, I use fewer emoji regularly. I think I also tend to use them more with people I know less? it feels less important to convey tonal context if you already know someone, as you can better trust they’ll know how to fill in the gaps, whereas that doesn’t apply so much to new people
