I laughed out loud at this response.
@augieray
Nothing but idiots, all the way down! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
@augieray And we're not actually a Christian country either.
@NormanDunbar I was under the impression the Church of England was both the official religion of England and Christian. Am I wrong?

@augieray No. It is the official religion, and Christian, for those who follow it.

EDIT: But the latest cansus figures say that less than half the population are Christmas.

@NormanDunbar @augieray Are you speaking of religious sect or of standards of behaviour?

@oclsc @augieray Well, now you come to mention it, both! πŸ˜‰

However, I appear to have been misinformed. It seems the public think we still are!

UPDATE: Although, the official census figures say otherwise. Less than half.

Britain is still a Christian country, say most Britons | YouGov

This is the most common view among non-Christians and those with no religion, as well as the majority of Christians

@augieray

Let's play, 'Spot the Reform voter'.

@augieray I mean, a pagan country first, but whatever.
@colorblindcowboy @augieray I wish I could shout this from the tippy tops of the hills! So many of our traditions are rooted in Paganism. As an actual Pagan, I see this as my country and all the colonising Christians as squatters.
...
I'm only half serious about my last point.

@CottonCandyandRazorblades @colorblindcowboy

Just to be clear: England is not a pagan nation. The Church of England is the established state church in England, with the Monarch serving as its Supreme Governor.

@CottonCandyandRazorblades @augieray For sure, squatters and adapters. So many of their β€œforemost” traditions were just grafted onto pre-existing holidays.
@augieray That is one brilliant response...! Well done.
@augieray If the Bedford Borough Council DID have authority over the Council, I'd suggest they focus on the rampant antisemitism (let's just say it was...not good for Jews) a little more than appeasing Mr. Why'd-you-black-out-his-name, who isn't really appeasable anyhow.
@augieray
Fun fact: Father Christmas aka Santa Claus aka Saint Nicholas of Myra has been named as an attendee at the First Council of Nicaea, which is also the source of the Nicene creed, which you'd know if you attend church.
@augieray But what if the Bedford Borough Council *was* responsible for the creation of the Moon and for the Council of Nicaea? How do we know? Just asking questions...
@augieray Don't mess with Bedford Borough, or at least not with Ben, who does the social media
@augieray this is doing the rounds on council WhatsApp groups everywhere. Hat off to whoever wrote it!
@augieray I have been rejoicing that Lent and Ramadan occur at more or less the same time. Does Judaism have a period of fasting? The religions coincide in so many other things like not killing, not stealing, not telling lies, not coveting your neighbour's stuff.

@ArchaeoIain @augieray

Ramadan (and all other Muslim holidays)'s dates drift by about 10 days every year because the Muslim calendar is an uncorrected lunar calendar.

It coincides with Lent this year and might for another year or two but does not usually match.

@gbargoud @augieray I apologise. I did not make it clear that I know that aspect. I still don't know whether there is a Judaic equivalence here as elsewhere with the other Abrahamic religions?
@ArchaeoIain @gbargoud @augieray Fasting also exists in Judaism but usually just for single days.
@ArchaeoIain @augieray And in powerful people declaring themselves exempt from said rules.
@oclsc @augieray yeah, but that is not part of the scripture they claim to believe in.
@augieray I can't actually tell the sequence of messages here.
@augieray If the council *were* responsible for the moon, it would seem explain the massive number of gigantic potholes visible from Earth, which have not been filled for many thousands of years ...
@augieray truly β€œchef’s kiss” 😹
β€œIf ya have a problem with this message, might I suggest you go live on a different planet?… I hear mars is rather cozy.” 🀣

@augieray It's always someone trying to hide their bigoted bullshit behind the religion shield, no matter if it's racism, homophobia or just them being a total piece of shit person.

These also give the best reactions when being called out if their action is really following the religion they claim to be representing.

@augieray Well clearly Bedford Borough Council should be given authority over the Council of Nicaea immediately.
@augieray if someoneis trying to mock the moving date of Ramadan, I suggest they sit in church and read those bits of the prayer book which enable you to calculate the date of Easter. I personally campaign to fix the date of Easter. In Australia it will always be on the same date as ANZAC Day, because the symbolism is the same. (and maybe then we can pay no attention to either of them)
