Assholes will always beat out non-assholes because they lack the kind of scrupulosity that makes you hesitate for a moment, thinking "wait, is this actually a bad idea that might only profit me in the process of harming others?" and by that point assholes have eaten your lunch, ordered themselves dessert, and left you with the check.
