I might do a full sound treatment of my car myself. It’s kind of shocking how much of the civic interior just clips together. Seems pretty easy to remove everything to get access to the bare floor and doors.
Shouldn’t be more than a few hundred bucks in materials, and if it makes it tolerable on road trips I suppose it’s worth it. Less annoying than buying a different car, anyway..
Ordered the stuff. Got 2mm butyl and 4mm closed cell foam, enough for the whole car according to a guy on the civicX forums. Idk if I’ll actually apply the closed cell foam over the whole interior. Maybe just over the wheel wells and in the doors (assuming it doesn’t interfere with the windows)
It also seems that you only need like 60-70% coverage for the butyl stuff too. It’s an anti-drum, so you’re just adding mass to change the resonant frequencies of the sheet metal. Any actual attenuation comes from the foam but I’m skeptical about how much difference 4mm of closed cell foam will make.
@nepi I used butyl in the trunk of my car and it helped a lot with noise.
@tuftCAD Yeah this is a hatchback so I imagine it will help a ton. Lots of road vibration comes in through the floor too so I imagine damping that out will improve things a ton
