@PaulHammond51 reminds me that today is the 5th anniversary of #Perseverance landing on the surface of #Mars, hanging under the #SkyCrane as seen in this #OutOfThisWorld image it captured the moment the umbilical cord connecting them was cut, and the Sky Crane veered off to a heroic crash about 900m NW.

A split second before the umbilical cable is cut, the Sky Crane captures its last image of the rover in the cloud of dust raised by its thrusters.

The camera was located on the Sky Crane but the images were transferred through the umbilical cable to the rover right before it was cut.

@65dBnoise seeing crisp images from the surface of another planet is astounding every time. But when it's such a dynamic scene it's just overwhelming. Thanks for sharing these wonders of science and nature with us!

@shom
It's been a pleasure to share my interests with so many kind and tolerant people in the hospitable environment of Mastodon and the fediverse.

Those people at NASA & co. are doing an excellent job delivering astounding results with such modesty and openness.

All these make one think that utopias can and do exist in reality 😀 🙃
