You will learn so much about a successful woman’s personal life before you learn her name.
As a “mom in her forties” type of woman, if I ever do something as cool as winning an Olympic medal, please share my name first.

@juliette

I'm sure they're "so-and-so's wife" too.

@juliette I wish they did that for the men too.

"Self employed carpenter John Smith with silver.... Etc."

It makes them feel more human and ordinary. It's more inspiring I would argue. I'm jealous when they say "mother of four..." It shows just how much more impressive it is. How they have some of the same barriers we do.

Granted, I 100% agree it's sad when it's "wife/gf of guy..." That's just poor journalism and resoect.

@geoff_eg Actually, it would be “Dad in his forties wins medal”. And that’s kind frustrating. The “best parent” award isn’t what they’ve been training for.

@juliette "Who cares about their names?!

We have to let typical cishet men know they're way too old to fantasise about; and cishet women know that they're worthy humans since they fulfilled their most important function first: motherhood!"

🙄 🤬

@juliette The article was written by "Brian Mann". How appropriate.
