It's weird how slow Tahoe is on my Intel Mac Pro. There's not really a reason for it on paper? It still has a beast of a CPU (and the CPU is not getting maxed out or anything.) Higher end GPU than what you'd find even on a top end Apple Silicon Mac. Feels like Apple just probably isn't prioritizing performance on Intel...
@colincornaby I’ve noticed a dip in GPU performance on my iMac Pro over the last few major OS releases. And I feel like it’s VRAM management issues. I say this due to how well the Unity Editor runs. Things were smooth and then it took a dive in recent releases. It felt like they stopped maintaining the Intel Mac GPU drivers and bumped something.

@colincornaby I sleep my iMac Pro Display before doing the GPU light baker in Unity to avoid VRAM issues. And if I use other apps while baking, I can trigger errors in the bake if I’m not careful. Electron and Safari do some sort of GPU work that makes Unity shit the bed.

But if I just leave the machine alone, and don’t have much else running it bakes fine. 8GB VRAM.

I didn’t use to have these problems.

@colincornaby For the last 5 or so days I've been running my machine at half res, and it feels responsive again like it did a few years ago. No more thrashing, hangs, etc. I can multitask while “VRAM intense" tasks are going on just like I use to.

It has really made my machine feel so much better. But now I’m running 2560x1440 on a 5k monitor!
