I forgot yesterday to post this.

Happy 35th Birthday to Lemmings published 14 Feb 1991. The development house was based in Dundee, Scotland were there is a statue to celebrate. #Lemmings #Dundee

@ar387 A milestone of humankind!
@ar387 That is an absolutely amazing statue there

@ar387 I played it at the library, on a computer that had the kind of CD drive that takes the CD in a square carrier like a floppy disk.

There’s nothing quite like Lemmings and Worms. The screen resolution was a fundamental feature in a way you can’t really do now.

@ar387 A game that did so much with so little.
@ar387 really enjoyed playing the original, the new one on my phone not quite so much
@ar387 Where in Dundee is this statue? On the Technology Park?

@ar387 Thanks Amy. I see a visit there in the near future 😊
@ar387 still one of the best games ever! Not only working out how to solve a problem, but also how to creatively send them to their doom 😁
@ar387 Did not expect that there exists a statue for those Lemmings. Very cool.

@ar387 I was wondering where exactly the statue is and it seems to be here:

Another reason to finally visit Dundee ^__^

@jfml there are various other statues in Dundee too, including ones for Desperate Dan from the Dandy cartoons.
@ar387 I can’t believe I’ve driven right by this and had no idea! Next time I’m in Scotland this absolutely deserves a stop!

@ar387

That pixel art is so iconic and so well designed for such a minimalist expression of a vibe.

The little bounce of the hair with every step is just, so good.

@ar387 All it took was one experimental animation by Mike Dailly. A few touchups later by Timmons, along with conceptualization of what to do with it, lead to the creation of such a classic.

The good ol' days of DMA Design, before they became a Rockstar asset. ❤️

@ar387 additional way point for our Scotland tour this year.
Thanks
@ar387 I had no idea it was from Dundee!

@ar387 Aww! I remember that game. I think I still have it for the Sega Mega Drive now that I think about it.

Good times!

@ar387 I spent so much time playing that game when I should have been working on my masters😬
@ar387
My brother claimed to have worked on some of the sound effects.
@ar387 I loved that game. Never figured out that last level.
@ar387
Three colors, 10x6 pixel. It's just a blob. But in this 1 second animation loop it suddenly becomes so much more. Pixel art is amazing. And I remember playing this on my Amiga and later on my mums 80386.
@ar387 @IngridHbn I could recognize that pixelart with my eyes closed… 😻
@ar387 Lemmings - a game that did what few have done: coming up with what felt like a really new idea. Even today with probably thousands of games released every year, you seldom see something unique. Most are just new takes of old ideas, or a mash of several old ideas.
@ar387 amazing what you can do with so few pixels, when you make them move…
@ar387 was Lemmings really that late? I coulda sworn it was 80s. Now if you’ll excuse me I need to fire up an emulator and have a play.
