If you have a Ring (Amazon) camera, you are -- or will become -- a tool of the surveillance state. Is that really what you want to be?

What could possibly go wrong…
@PamelaBarroway @dangillmor Smart move! In fact, we need to go back to the days where everything was stored locally as oppose to depending on companies to collect, store our data for exploitation.
Just keep things safe and simple. That and it will also cut down on all the electricity that gets wasted too.
@Fokeu @PamelaBarroway @dangillmor Well...more specifically set networks of computers/servers sending data everywhere to selected companies, data centers and whatnot.
But whatever the hell the 'Cloud' is, and especially in regards to this case, it's data getting scraped on our personal lives and getting exploited for personal profit that benefits authoritarianism and potential Oligarchs.
@dangillmor Dammit! Why does society choose to walk into these things all the time?
We could've easily avoided all of this if we choose to just reject this, but that's only possible if we choose to.
@dangillmor here in Germany it’s illegal to have video surveillance that films more than your own property. You can’t surveil a street or sidewalk.
Legislation the US could have, even under 🍊👹, because it could be local/state.
@dangillmor just call them what they are:
IF YOU HAVE A RING DOORBELL YOU'RE A TIMID, PARANOID TOOL.
